Crytek will never “replace” Hunt Showdown with Hunt 2, as happened with Overwatch and Counter-Strike

Crytek does not plan to release Hunt: ShowDown with the destruction of monsters and, thus, hopes to avoid problems with a negative public reaction that Overwatch 2 from Activision-Blizzard and Counter-Strike 2 from Valve-both games were presented as full-fledged sequels With more modern technologies, but in fact, they were more like the seasons of service content, arbitrarily modernized to replace the previous games, Overwatch and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, were removed from the sale so as not to split the base of the players.

Talking in an interview with Hunt’s evolution since its exit from early access in 2019, the General manager of the game David Fefield noted that although Crytek can make another game, this will not be a direct continuation of ShowDown – and certainly not at the expense of the ability to play in Original game.

I would say that we will be even less aggressive than Overwatch or, say, Destiny 2. No, we have no plans to create Hunt 2. We just plan to continue to move forward. There was little sense in Overwatch 2, even when a huge PVE component was promised for her, but when she did not even have this, she became just a reskin Overwatch 1, with all that you already had.

Crytek plans for Hunt are closer to how Epic developed Fortnite, continued Fayfield.

We can say that the second chapter Fortnite was Fortnite 2 – they made a new island, radically processed a whole, the gigantic part of all their systems, but called it the second chapter of the game called Fortnite. So, it seems that it is this trend that we will adhere to when updating Hunt Showdown.

This, of course, does not mean that Crytek will never release a new game in the Hunt universe.

If we talked about other products as part of the Hunt franchise, they would not be a replacement for Hunt Showdown, but would be an expansion of the brand. Here is another game that could be made in the Hunt universe, but it should not have replaced Hunt Showdown, which people play.

The obvious complexity here is the aging of technology. If you start a service game, then there comes a time when the start technology requires updating, whether it is the introduction of new effects or compatibility, which means the refusal of developers to support the old versions of the game. Crytek recently announced plans to stop supporting Hunt: ShowDown on PS4 and Xbox One, as well as increase the minimum characteristics of the PC game due to updating the game for work on the last Cryengine iteration. Currently, developers are working on a new card and bioma to demonstrate related opportunities.
