The ACE Attorney series switched to 3D graphs after the success of the crossover with the Professor Layton series
The developers of the ACE Attorney series decided to translate the graphics of the visual novel on 3D after the success of the Professor Layton crossover.
In the last issue of Play Magazine (Issue 36) Kenichi Hasimoto, producer of the upcoming Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy, talked about how the series moved to 3D after several years of stay in the widely known 2D schedule. Despite the message on the blog of 2007 that the team that created the game experimented with 3D graphics almost 20 years ago, the producer remembers the story differently.
Talking about the original Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Hasimoto recalls:
We did not plan to switch to 3D in Apollo Justice, and so it was before the exit of the Professor Layton vs crossover. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney in 2012. "During the development of the fifth game, Dual Destinies, we saw how successful the 3D image in Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney was. In combination with the capabilities of the ten-year-old Nintendo 3DS, we felt that we could not ignore the 3D capacities. Therefore, we tried the visual style of 3D models that looked like 2D art, and it turned out even better than we expected.
If you are a little not aware of ACE Attorney/Professor Layton, then the first ACE Attorney game with 3D visualization will appear only in 2013 at Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies.
As for Layton, as in ACE Attorney, 3D graphics appeared after the release of the crossover. After that, the developer of Professor Layton, Level-5, I decided to use the 3D animation in all games for Nintendo 3DS. Now, seven years after the release of the last edition of the series, we will find a completely new 3D adventure of Laiton and Luke called Professor Layton and the New World of Steam for Nintendo Switch, whose release is scheduled for 2025.
New Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy will be released on January 25, 2024 and will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
