Mortal Kombat 1 will receive longer support after launch than Mortal Kombat 11
Mortal Kombat Director Ed Boon said that Netherrealm Studios plans to support Mortal Kombat 1 with new content and updates for a longer period of time compared to Mortal Kombat 11. After the launch in 2019, Netherrealm continued to release new characters and a large expansion (named aftermath) for MK11, before the development ultimately completed the development in 2021. Since MK1 is already on the horizon, Bun said that Netherrealm employees are already planning to support the game in 2025 or later.
During a conversation at Comic-Con in San Diego, Bun was asked how long fans could expect updates to Mortal Kombat 1 after it appears on store shelves in September. Bun said that at least Netherrealm expects two -year support after the release, as was the case with Mortal Kombat 11. However, in all likelihood, MK1 should receive new content for an even longer period of time, although no specific schedules have yet been established.
“I think this is the minimum that we will do,” Bun said about the idea of continuing to work on Mortal Kombat 1 for two years. “I think that we will support this game, at least as much as Mortal Kombat 11. I suspect that even longer, but the most interesting thing about the release of additional characters after we launched the game is to see their relationship ”.
Speaking more about these additional characters, Netherrealm recently confirmed the full composition of its DLC Kombat Pack in Mortal Kombat 1. In total, six fighters will be represented in this addition, including Takededa, Ermak, Kuan Chi, Omni-Men, Peacemaker and Homelander. Netherrealm has not yet provided a certain release window when this is DLC.
As for the main game, Mortal Kombat 1 should be released in less than two months, September 19, 2023. The game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC, and it can also be played during closed beta testing at an indefinite time in August.
