The Lamplighters League developers will leave Paradox and become independent
In 2018, Paradox Interactive announced the acquisition of Harebrayed Schemes, creators of Shadowrun and Battletech, as part of a transaction worth $ 7.5 million. Despite the fact that after their first joint release from the moment of acquisition, The Lamplighters League, a little time has passed, it seems that their partnership is coming to an end.
Paradox Interactive and Harebarained Schems announced in a press release that the paths of the two companies would “disperse” on January 1, 2024. The latter after that will retain its independence, while The Lamplighters League and other games previously developed by Harebrained Schemes will continue to belong to Paradox.
The Paradox press release says that the separation of two companies is “the result of a mutual agreement arising from strategic and creative priorities of each side“.
“Paradox reoriented its strategy for its main niches in strategic and managerial games with endless qualities,” said Charlotte Nielsson’s Chief Operating Director of Paradox Interactive. “We and the HBS leadership discussed what will happen after The Lamplighters League release, but a new project or continuation in the same genre did not correspond to the plans of our portfolio. Therefore, we believe that the separation would be the best way forward. We are very glad that this talented, gifted studio has a chance to continue work, and we can’t wait to see what they will do next “.
Meanwhile, Harebrated Schems confirmed that she would continue to support The Lamplighters League in the foreseeable future and will begin to look for new funding and the possibilities of partnership next year.
“Harebarained Schemes will support The Lamplighters League until the end of the year, while we are looking for financing and partnerships for an independent future in 2024,” Brian said, operating manager of Harebrained Schems studio. “The mission of our studio remains the same: to create games that challenge your mind and touch your heart”.
Earlier this month, shortly after the launch of The Lamplighters League, Paradox Interactive called the initial commercial indicators of the strategy “great disappointment“, despite “A carefully positive number of players in signature services“.
