Todd Howard compared Starfield with Red Dead Redemption 2
Todd Howard from Bethesda compared the Starfield gameplay to Red Dead RedMption 2 from Rockstar.
Starfield is positioned as the flagship release of Xbox in 2023. While the short trailer was shown during the Xbox Games Showcase, the game also received its own presentation by Starfield Direct, which allowed gamers to get the best idea that Starfield will bring with them in September. Todd Howard continued to promote Starfield in various interviews after Starfield Direct, recently comparing the gameplay with the Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay.
In an interview with IGN, Howard said: "Like a stream, it is probably more like Red Dead 2. For example, I live in the genre of Western. And in this game you live a fantasy fantasy. And sometimes it is a presence on a barren planet where nothing happens". Howard continued: "For me, these are games in which I feel that I am rooted in the reality of this universe, and everything else seems to disappear". This does not mean that Starfield will look like Red Dead Redemption 2 in space, but Howard’s statements seem to indicate that Rockstar Western with the open world served as a kind of inspiration for Starfield gameplay.
Judging by what has been shown so far, Starfield will look like Skyrim in space, but at the same time it will have its own unique personality. But although the game will not literally look like a space version of Red Dead Redemption 2, it will be present elements of the Wild West. Starfield even has a city in this style that players will be able to visit, as shown at the presentation of Starfield Direct.
One of the characters that players will meet in their adventures in Starfield, it seems, literally cosmic cowboy. During the presentation of Starfield Direct, players presented more Starfield companions, including a man named Sam Cu, who is dressed as a cowboy.
After the official exit, Starfield will be interesting to see if there are any obvious ways that Red Dead Redemption 2 influenced her.
